Complete and recheck an equipment prestart on mobile

Choose the right machine and checklist, record real answers and signatures, then verify the locked result before a later recheck.

Before you start

Use the intended business, job, machine and approved prestart template. Safety must be available and enabled; Field access to a job’s equipment prestarts follows job allocation. Company gear allocation and permission to manage the equipment register are separate from completing an accessible prestart. The instructions below describe the checklist screen; PDF-backed forms have their own displayed controls.

Plan eligibility, business features, permissions and device support still apply. Reading a guide does not grant access.

Step by step

  1. Open the job’s Safety & compliance area and select the existing prestart. Start a prestart is for a new inspection: choose the registered machine and its template, or use Plant not in AllQuote — hired or borrowed and enter the actual identifying details with the appropriate template.
  2. Check the machine, job, form title and current state before answering. For each item on the checklist, choose Yes, No or N/A according to the actual inspection and add useful notes. Do not choose Yes merely to get a passing result.
  3. Use Save draft to submit progress when connected. Where a signature is required, the authorised signer checks their name and role and draws the signature. Signature captured on the screen is not saved until the save or completion action succeeds.
  4. Review every answer and any Still required message before choosing Complete. An equipment prestart needs all checklist items answered and the required signatures. Read validation errors and correct the original record; do not start another inspection to avoid missing answers.
  5. Check the returned Pass, Fail or other displayed result and Completed and locked status. A No answer is preserved in the result. Completion is not automatically a pass or permission to operate: follow the business’s defect and isolation procedure when a problem is found.
  6. If the completed registered-equipment prestart offers Meter reading, it is a separate optional update. Check the displayed unit and actual reading, then choose Save reading or Not now. A queued or rejected meter update does not undo the completed prestart; verify that reading separately.
  7. For a genuine later inspection, such as a recheck after repair, use Record another where offered. This creates a new record while retaining the completed original. Recheck the machine, template and job and complete the new inspection with fresh observations.

Worked example

An operator finds a defect during the morning prestart and records No with a note. They complete and verify the failed record, follow the isolation procedure, and later record a separate inspection after the repair. They do not replace the morning answer with Yes to erase the defect.

This is an illustrative scenario, not a customer testimonial.

Check the result

Reopen the original record and confirm the identity, answers, signatures and locked result. A completed checklist is an inspection record, not an automatic safety approval, service entry, regulatory filing or invoice.

Limits and troubleshooting

  • Checklist loading, answer saves, signatures and completion require a connection; they are not queued by the general offline write system. A failed completion can follow an already successful answer or signature save. Reopen the same record and inspect what was saved before repeating the action.
  • If the response is uncertain, check the original prestart before using Record another. That button is for a new inspection, not retry recovery. Completed records are locked; use the supported correction process or a clearly separate recheck rather than rewriting the original.
  • If Record another is missing or a template is no longer available, return to the authorised job/template workflow and resolve the stated problem. Do not select unrelated plant or a different business to get past access checks.
  • Toolbox talks and inductions are different checklist types, with their own attendance and signature requirements; do not present them as equipment inspections. A PDF-backed prestart opens the document form instead of the Yes/No checklist. Follow that form’s required fields and signature controls and verify its completion separately.
  • Templates, inspection duties and terminology vary by country and equipment. Use the locally appropriate reviewed template, not an assumption that a sample SWMS, JSA or checklist establishes legal equivalence. No provider payment is initiated by completing a prestart.

Business settings in New Zealand

  • Set your business country in Business settings before entering customer addresses or preparing documents. The country selected on the public website does not change an existing business.
  • Check the business currency (NZD), time zone and document tax settings. Only enable tax collection if your business is registered and the settings match your requirements. Your customer invoice tax settings are separate from tax on your AllQuote subscription.
  • Screenshots use demonstration records. Their sample currency, addresses and tax amounts do not override your business settings.
