Metric and imperial mobile calculators

Calculate areas and material counts, convert cubic quantities, and distinguish US from imperial gallons.

Before you start

Confirm the business country, dimensions and supplier buying unit. Tools are calculation aids; they do not independently measure a site, specify material depth or approve an estimate.

Plan eligibility, business features, permissions and device support still apply. Reading a guide does not grant access.

Step by step

  1. Open Tools → Quick tools → Area & materials. New calculations start in feet for a US business and metres for AU, NZ, Canada and the UK.
  2. Select Metric (m) or Imperial (ft) explicitly before entering Width and Length. Read the unit suffix beside each value and the square unit beside Area.
  3. For tiles or sheets, enter Item width and Item length in the same selected length unit. Check the displayed item area and calculated count against the actual product size and layout.
  4. When switching between metres and feet, review the converted dimensions; the calculation retains the underlying physical measurement. Changing units is not the same as entering a new size.
  5. Use Unit converter for metres/feet, square metres/square feet, cubic metres/cubic feet or cubic metres/cubic yards. Use the swap control only after checking which unit is the input.
  6. For liquid quantities, choose the explicitly labelled US gal or Imp gal conversion. The two gallon definitions are different; match the supplier specification.

Worked example

A 10 ft by 12 ft rectangular area is 120 ft², about 11.15 m². A separately specified depth of 0.5 ft gives 60 ft³, about 2.22 yd³. Check that the depth is specified in feet rather than inches before ordering material.

This is an illustrative scenario, not a customer testimonial.

Check the result

Check the arithmetic with one known dimension and record the unit beside every transferred quantity. Add waste, pack rounding and ordering allowances deliberately; a calculator output is not a supplier order.

Limits and troubleshooting

  • Mobile calculator choices do not rewrite an existing drawing, assembly, catalogue rate or quote. The web takeoff has its own saved measurement units and calibration.
  • Country defaults are starting points. Canadian or UK work can use imperial specifications; select the required unit rather than inferring it from the address. These tools do not determine regional tax obligations.
